Abstract
The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe works to specifically address the needs of families of its tribal members, other Indians, and non-Indians who have social or familial ties to tribal members on the Port Gamble S’Klallam Reservation and in Kitsap county. The target population includes families with parents who are/have been substance abusers, children who are experiencing difficulties in school, and families with domestic violence issues. A team consisting of Tribal Elders, representatives of the target population, and health and human service professionals will assess local strengths and needs, review exemplary practices, and select a family strengthening model for replication. Evaluations of outcomes will add to current knowledge regarding the type of program components key to effectiveness among Tribal populations and community decision-making processes in Indian Country. |
