Objectives
The clinic?s purpose is to reduce financial and geographic barriers to service and implement and expand culturally appropriate intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment that will alleviate unmet needs, promote treatment and compliance in hard-to-reach communities, promote community participation, and improve client assessment, tracking, and program evaluation.

Key Components
Substance abuse counseling services are part of the Child & Family Services Department at United Indian Health Services, which is a nonprofit community organization founded in 1970, with board members from various tribes and American Indian communities in northern California. A 12-Step facilitation treatment model is used using culturally appropriate practices (Talking Circles, Red Road, sweat lodges, etc. Services provided: intensive outpatient treatment and child care to facilitate client access, individual and group treatment, aftercare, parenting and youth groups, and drug court services. Referrals to other agencies as needed for mental health, inpatient treatment, youth residential treatment, domestic violence intervention, and health problems such as diabetes are provided as needed.

Evaluation had process component, tracking of services utilization, service completion questionnaires, baseline, 6 and 12 month CSAT GPRA required measures.

Developed a curriculum for a culturally based, youth substance abuse prevention program called Peers Offering Wisdom, Education and Respect (POWER). Training available.
